The EU will send 5% of the new €1.6 billion aid tranche to weapons for Ukraine.
The European Union (EU) has sent Ukraine a third transfer in the amount of 1.6 billion euros received from windfall profits from the frozen assets of the Central Bank of Russia. This was announced on August 11 on the website of the European Commission (EC).
According to the publication, the money was received on Friday, August 8, as part of the use of income from frozen assets of the Russian Federation. It is specified that the funds will be used to continue financial assistance to Kiev.
This will be the third tranche. According to the EC, 90% of the funds of the first two were allocated through the European Peace Fund (EPF) for the needs of Ukraine, and 10% through the Ukrainian Fund.
"Starting from the third tranche, 95% of the funds will be allocated to support Ukraine through the Credit Cooperation Mechanism for Ukraine (ULCM), and 5% through the EPF," the EC said.
Earlier, on August 10, The Financial Times newspaper reported that EU leaders are considering using sovereign Russian assets in the amount of 190 billion euros to rebuild Ukraine after the conflict. In addition, according to the newspaper, European countries insist on strengthening anti-Russian sanctions by the United States.
