There were 666 road accidents in Russia over the weekend.
Over the past weekend, on August 9-10, 666 road accidents occurred on Russian roads, in which 92 people were killed and 857 injured. This was reported to Izvestia on August 11 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
29 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which one person was killed, and 48 more road users, including one child, required medical attention. 17 bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers.
As a result of 121 accidents, 35 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 86 outside their area of operation, 12 pedestrians were killed, and 113 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 32 young pedestrians, while 27 of them were injured while crossing the roadway in unintended places.
Over the past weekend, 139 accidents involving minors were registered, in which 158 young road users were injured, including 81 passengers, 16 cyclists and 14 motor transport drivers. Eight children were killed: four of whom were passengers, three were motor vehicle drivers and one was a pedestrian.
In the Tyumen region, an intoxicated passenger car driver collided with an electric bicycle driven by a woman carrying her ten-year-old daughter, which was traveling in the opposite direction along the right edge of the roadway. As a result of the accident, the driver of the electric bike and her minor passenger were killed.
In the Kursk region, a fourteen-year-old pit bike driver without a motorcycle helmet drove into the oncoming lane, where he collided with a passenger car. As a result of the accident, a minor motorcycle driver was killed, his fourteen-year-old passenger, who was also without a motorcycle helmet, was injured and hospitalized.
A similar accident occurred in one of the villages of Yakutia, where a fifteen-year-old motorcycle driver drove into the oncoming lane and collided with an oncoming foreign car. As a result of the accident, the motorcycle driver and his fifteen-year-old passenger, who were traveling without motorcycle helmets, died.
In Tatarstan, the driver of a passenger car, overtaking passing vehicles on the right in the acceleration lane, lost control. The car skidded, and he drove into the oncoming lane, where he collided with a passenger car, in which a boy and a girl of eleven and twelve years old were inside. The children were in the back passenger seat, wearing seat belts. As a result of the accident, both children died from their injuries at the scene.
In the Altai Territory, an eleven-year-old electric scooter driver, traveling without a helmet accompanied by his grandmother, lost control and overturned. As a result of the accident, the boy died from his injuries at the scene.
The State Traffic Inspectorate strongly advises motorists to strictly observe the speed limit in order to be able to react in time to a possible sudden change in the road situation due to pedestrians violating traffic regulations. You should also always slow down until the vehicle comes to a complete stop when approaching crossings in order to allow pedestrians crossing the roadway to pass.
"Parents should never leave the keys to cars or motor vehicles in places accessible to children, thereby allowing for the possibility of the very fact of a dangerous trip. Eliminate even the minimal risk of tragedy. Be attentive to your children and remember that the health and life of children depend entirely on each of you," said Police Colonel Anton Belan, Deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
Earlier today it became known that in Dagestan, a car crashed into a pole of a power line. Five people were injured in the accident.
