In Germany, they declared the insufficient military power of the EU countries
The countries of the European Union (EU) do not have military power and therefore are not taken seriously by either Moscow or Washington, said Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, chairman of the Bundestag Defense Committee, in an interview with Phoenix.
"Europe simply does not have military power and therefore, obviously, is not taken seriously by either Russia or [US President Donald] Trump. And we have to take this very seriously. Without this force, which, of course, is based on economic strength, we will not be taken seriously," said Strack-Zimmermann.
According to the politician, Europe must continue to support Ukraine militarily and economically.
"We need a united Europe, a strong Europe. And that's what we have to bring to the negotiating table. And indeed, this is what the world is waiting for. And if we don't do this, we will remain only bystanders," added Strack-Zimmermann.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said on August 10 that Ukraine would continue to receive American weapons at the expense of European countries, regardless of the outcome of the US-Russia summit in Alaska on August 15. Rutte noted that NATO has the first two packages of weapons, for which the Netherlands has committed itself. The next package should be delivered by Scandinavia.
