The Tagansky District Court of Moscow fined the Telegram messenger 3.5 million rubles for violating the law on the procedure for restricting access to information. This was announced on August 11 by the press service of the capital's courts of general jurisdiction.
"By a decision of the Tagansky District Court of Moscow, Telegram Messenger Inc. was found guilty of committing an administrative offense. <...> An administrative penalty was imposed in the form of an administrative fine in the amount of 3.5 million rubles," the message says.
It is clarified that the messenger was fined under Part 2 of Article 13.41 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (CAO) — failure by the owner of a website to delete information or an Internet page if the obligation to delete is provided for by Russian legislation on information, information technology and information protection.
The maximum prescribed penalty under the article is a fine of 4 million rubles.
On July 29, a court in Moscow fined Zoom Communications, Inc. almost 80 million rubles in an administrative case. The organization was found guilty of refusing to fulfill its obligations as a foreign entity operating in Russia, under Part 3 of Article 13.49 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation.
