Kremlin: Pashinyan's conversation with Putin was initiated by the Armenian side
The telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan took place on the initiative of the Armenian side. This was announced on August 11 on the Kremlin's press service website.
Pashinyan informed Putin in detail about the results of his meeting with US President Donald Trump and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, which took place on August 8 in Washington. Putin stressed the importance of steps aimed at ensuring sustainable peace between Yerevan and Baku.
He also confirmed Russia's readiness to contribute to the normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations within the framework of the trilateral agreements of 2020-2022, including unblocking transport communications in the region.
During the conversation, issues of bilateral relations were also touched upon, including the development of trade and investment cooperation and cooperation within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union.
Earlier, on August 8, Pashinyan and Aliyev signed a declaration on the peaceful settlement of the conflict. During the meeting in Washington, they agreed to end the confrontation and resume diplomatic relations. Later, the Armenian Prime Minister said that Yerevan and Baku had established peace by signing documents in Washington.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, in turn, stressed Russia's key role in normalizing Armenian-Azerbaijani relations. She recalled that the current stage of normalization started with the direct assistance of Moscow and the signing of the trilateral declaration in 2020.
