Soil drought threatens crops in Stavropol region
A soil drought has engulfed agricultural fields in the Stavropol Territory. The harvest of legumes, oilseeds and root crops was under threat, the press service of the regional Hydrometeorological Center reports.
For example, meteorological stations record the absence of moisture in the fields under alfalfa and esparcet in Budennovsk. In Izobilnoye, the land has dried up under beet crops, and in Georgievsk — under sunflowers and corn.
A similar situation is observed in the Kochubeyevsky district. As of Monday, August 11, the drought affected fields with soybeans, corn, sugar beet and sunflower. The oilseed crop is also suffering from a lack of water in the Krasnogvardeysky district.
According to the StavropolMedia news agency, there is a high fire danger in the east and southwest of the region. No precipitation is expected in the coming days.
At the end of July, it was reported that the Stavropol authorities want to attract an amphibious aircraft from the Russian Hydrometeorological Service to fight for the harvest. The aircraft acts on clouds to form precipitation.
