More than 2 thousand tons of watermelons and melons have been harvested in Crimea since the beginning of the season. Due to the hot weather, the fruits ripened earlier than usual, the press service of the republican government reported on Monday, August 11.

About 505 hectares of farmland were allocated for melon crops. The harvesting work will last at least another month. The products are in demand not only in the region, but also abroad.

As noted by IA SevastopolMedia, Crimean vegetable growers are supported by the state. This year, the industry received financing in the amount of more than 22 million rubles.

Earlier, Izvestia told what path the watermelon had to go through before it received official recognition from chefs around the world. Now striped berry is increasingly used as a seasonal ingredient in dishes of the author's cuisine.
