Vucic pointed to the double standards of EU leaders' statements on Ukraine
On August 10, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic pointed to the "double standards" of statements by the leaders of the European Union (EU) on Ukraine, advocating the inadmissibility of changing international borders by force.
Vucic stressed that the joint declaration of European leaders on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine is so "wonderful" that he will read it constantly when he hears talk about recognizing Kosovo.
"Their statement is so beautiful that I will read it to them every time they ask me about Kosovo. Whenever they offer to recognize him, whenever they offer to sign something with Pristina, I will read their statement," he said on the Pink TV channel.
Speaking about the Ukrainian crisis, the Serbian leader also touched upon the upcoming talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart Donald Trump. He called the meeting important, noting that Serbia stands for peace on this issue.
"I could remember how we were forbidden to talk to Russians and Americans, but I wish them a good meeting, results, and that we were all happy, so that we had peace," the president said in an interview.
Earlier, on August 8, Trump announced a meeting with Putin in Alaska on August 15. The US president noted that details about the upcoming negotiations will be published later. Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov called the choice of a venue for negotiations logical. He said that the economic interests of the states intersect in the region. There are prospects for joint projects in Alaska.
Later, on August 11, Vucic said that the meeting between Trump and Putin in Alaska scheduled for August 15 would not ensure an instant end to the conflict in Ukraine, but it could be an important step towards its resolution. According to him, a possible settlement of the conflict will be of great importance for the economy of not only Serbia, but also many other states.
