- Degtyarev proposed to introduce a salary cap for Russian football players, following the example of the KHL
The salary cap in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) can be an example for Russian football. This was announced on August 11 by the Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Mikhail Degtyarev.
He noted that football clubs in the Russian Federation should not have problems with excessive salary demands from Russian players due to the tightening of the limit on foreign players.
"There is a salary cap in hockey, there is one in the KHL, I myself headed the Amur hockey club, I know that there are salary sheets. So distribute it — you can take a more expensive player, you can take a cheaper one. Otherwise, some have agreed that our Russian football players will demand more salaries due to the tightening of the limit. What are you talking about? What kind of fright? If, of course, you have an unlimited budget, you need to spend the money together with the agents, divide everything, and schedule it, please," he said on the Rossiya 24 TV channel.
On August 5, Degtyarev announced plans to gradually tighten the limit on foreign players in the Russian Premier League (RPL). According to him, the purpose of such a decision will be to establish a format of "five on the field, ten in the application."
