- The expert pointed to the threat of a shortage of weapons for the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the event of termination of US aid.
If the United States stops supplying weapons free of charge to the Ukrainian side, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) will face a severe shortage of artillery shells and air defense missiles. Pavel Feldman, Candidate of Political Sciences, Professor at the Academy of Labor and Social Relations, told Izvestia on August 11.
"This will significantly affect the course of hostilities and bring the military defeat of Kiev closer. The United States accounts for about 40% of the total Western aid to Ukraine. The position of American leader Donald Trump is very clear: American taxpayers no longer want to support the regime of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky," the expert said.
According to him, despite possible changes in US policy, European countries may try to shoulder the burden of financing arms supplies. However, Feldman noted, if the Europeans decide to fully take on this burden, Washington is unlikely to give up the opportunity to benefit from the situation.
"EU countries can independently purchase American weapons for Ukraine, but their financial resources are very limited," the expert stressed.
In addition, political analyst Alexander Asafov added that the question of how Trump's decision to end aid to Kiev can become permanent remains open and requires an analysis of various assumptions. He also pointed out the unpredictability of future elections, stressing that the American leader may decide both in favor of continuing aid and in the opposite direction.
On August 10, US Vice President Jay Dee Vance stressed that the American leader wants to stop financing the Ukrainian crisis and achieve a peaceful settlement. According to him, Americans are tired of spending money and taxes on the conflict. At the same time, Vance noted that Washington would not prevent Europeans from purchasing weapons from US manufacturers for further transfer to Ukraine.
