The US Army plans to deploy hundreds of National Guard troops in Washington. This was reported on August 11 by the Reuters news agency, citing officials.

"It is unclear exactly what the troops will be doing, but they may take part in efforts to protect federal agents or even perform administrative tasks to free law enforcement officers," the material says.

It is noted that the final decision will be made by US President Donald Trump. At the moment, the troops are ready to deploy in the city.

Earlier, on August 5, Trump proposed taking Washington under federal control to combat the growing crime rate. He noted that many criminals are confident of their impunity due to their young age. In this regard, the US president proposed changing the law and prosecuting juvenile offenders as adults, sending them to prison "for long periods" starting at the age of 14. Later, on August 9, Trump announced a press conference on the issue. He also noted that Washington will soon turn from the most dangerous city into the safest.

On August 11, The Washington Post reported that about 120 agents from the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) were deployed to help police officers fight crime in Washington.
