Interior Ministry officials have detained six people who are suspected of registering at least 5,000 foreigners for migration through hacked accounts on Public Services. This was announced on August 11 by the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation Irina Volk.

"My colleagues from the Department for Combating the Illegal Use of Information and Communication Technologies of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region detained six local residents. They are suspected of organizing illegal migration," she wrote on her Telegram channel.

According to preliminary data, since 2023, the attackers have been engaged in fictitious registration of foreign citizens. They used Russian accounts on a Single portal of state and municipal services, which they fraudulently gained access to. To find potential clients, the defendants created numerous Telegram channels where they advertised their services. In total, they administered about 350 Telegram channels of a similar profile.

As a result of operational search measures, the police detained the suspects. Smartphones, computers, forged letterheads and seals of state authorities, bank and SIM cards, and other items of evidentiary value were seized during the searches.

On July 15, it was reported that 12 people in the Moscow Region were accused of organizing illegal migration and committing corruption crimes. They were brought before the court. In the period from 2022 to 2024, a resident of Balashikha headed an interethnic organized group of 10 people specializing in organizing illegal migration of foreign citizens.
