The expert called undesirable products for heating in the microwave
Increasingly, people are using microwaves to heat food, but there are products that are better heated using other methods. About this on August 11, "Gazeta.Ru", said Natalia Fomenko, Associate Professor of the Department of Food Safety at ROSBIOTECH University.
"It is not necessary to heat eggs (boiled or in the shell). This is due to the risk of explosion due to the accumulation of steam inside. It is better to warm it up in hot water," Fomenko shared.
The associate professor also did not recommend heating breast milk or baby food in the microwave. This is due to the uneven heating of the food, and therefore the child may accidentally get scalded and uncomfortable.
According to the expert, it is undesirable to reheat green leafy vegetables and peppers. When heated, they release toxic substances that are harmful to human health.
"It is not recommended to reheat mushrooms in a microwave oven... Microwaves can lead to oxidation and loss of the beneficial properties of vegetable oils: olive, linseed," the expert noted.
Fomenko also advised against microwaving rice and honey, as these products may lose their beneficial properties.
"Semi-finished meat products (sausages, sausages), when heated in a microwave, form cholesterol oxidation products that increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases. If you need to reheat these products, it is better to use an oven, stove or steamer," the associate professor added.
Earlier, on February 28, 2024, Alexander Pyatakov, Professor of the Department of Physics of Oscillations at the Faculty of Physics of Moscow State University, Professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Physico-Mathematical Sciences, dispelled the popular myth about the dangers of using microwaves. He noted that a microwave warms up food using the thermal effect of microwave radiation with a frequency of 2.45 gigahertz on water molecules in food. This exposure can be dangerous for biological tissues containing large amounts of water.
