Eight people were killed as a result of shooting at patrons of a nightclub in the city of Santa Lucia in Ecuador. This was reported on August 10 by the local newspaper El Universo.

"The police found that a gray pickup truck drove up to the nightclub building, from which armed men got out and opened fire on the crowd," the publication says.

All the victims were between 22 and 40 years old. It is noted that one of the victims is the brother of the mayor of the city, who was the owner of the institution.

The shooters used 5.56 and 9 mm caliber weapons. More than 80 shell casings were found at the scene.

Law enforcement officers are currently trying to identify the attackers. It is possible that the shooting may be related to a conflict between criminal groups.

"We cannot say for sure whether this was a direct motive for the attack on the owner of the nightclub or had some other reasons," said Javier Chango, commander of the Guayas provincial police subzone.

Earlier, on April 20, unknown people opened fire at the Hilton hotel in the center of Berlin in the morning, and at least one person was injured. As the newspaper pointed out, there is a nightclub in the hotel, where there could be a quarrel between visitors. However, law enforcement officers have not provided any details yet.
