Four people injured in earthquake in western Turkey
According to preliminary data, four people were injured and hospitalized as a result of the earthquake in the Turkish province of Balikesir. The head of the country's Ministry of Health, Kemal Memisoglu, said on August 10 that their lives were not in danger.
"The treatment of the four victims is still ongoing in our hospitals, their lives are not in danger," CNN Turk quoted him as saying.
According to Interior Minister Ali Yerlikai, at least two people remain trapped under the rubble after the building collapsed due to the earthquake. Two residents who were there have already been rescued. Search and rescue operations are continuing. The mayor of Syndyrgy announced the collapse of at least ten buildings in the village closest to the epicenter of the earthquake.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan issued an urgent statement expressing condolences over the earthquake. The Turkish leader noted that all necessary measures have been taken to carry out rescue operations.
Earlier in the day, an earthquake of magnitude 6.1 occurred in western Turkey. The epicenter of the tremors was in Balikesir province at a depth of 11 km. TRT Haber TV channel clarified that the earthquake was felt for about 20-30 seconds in at least 10 districts in the west of the country. Now some of them have problems with mobile communication.
