- New versions of shortened submachine guns and light machine guns have been introduced in Russia.
On August 10, new versions of shortened submachine guns and light machine guns were introduced in Russia, taking into account the wishes of military personnel, including participants in a special military operation (SVO).
The Kalashnikov concern held a demonstration of new products. The demonstration took place even in the sky: a kamikaze drone attacks the military, and they fight back with a shotgun. The stands feature the latest assault rifles and machine guns, including the AK-15, the direct successor to the AK-12.
"This is an AK-12, and this is an AK-15. In principle, these are the same weapons, only in different calibers. The same sight, the same safety catch, the filling inside is absolutely the same. It's just that [the [7.62 [mm] caliber is very popular with foreign customers, such are their preferences," said Stanislav Grigoriev, a correspondent for Izvestia.
The highlight of the program was a compact weapon for assault units — the RPL machine gun. Its caliber is the same, 7.62 mm, its ammunition capacity is almost equal to the bulkier old Kalashnikov machine gun, and its weight is similar to that of a conventional assault rifle. The weapon is still under development.
According to Alan Lushnikov, CEO of the concern, Kalashnikov is constantly in touch with the military. A group of technical specialists is currently working near the front line to collect comments on new products and send them to design bureaus.
"It is impossible to do this without feedback from the units that work on the ground and use our products in real combat conditions. We have direct service, implementation, and support groups that interact with users," Lushnikov shared.
During the presentation of the AK-15K and AK-15SK assault rifles, Sergey Urzhumtsev, chief designer of the concern, said that countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America were interested in these models. The Russian Ministry of Defense has also placed an order for 7.62 mm caliber weapons under the state contract.
