The meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart Donald Trump in Alaska on August 15 is expected to result in breakthroughs in the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. This was stated on August 10 by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in an interview with the ARD channel.
"We hope for a breakthrough on August 15th. First of all, to finally have a cease-fire. And the possibility of peace talks in Ukraine," the Tagesschau TV channel writes with reference to the Chancellor.
Merz also shared plans to hold a telephone conversation with Trump on Sunday, August 10.
Earlier, on August 9, Kirill Dmitriev, special representative of the President of the Russian Federation for cooperation with foreign countries and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), warned that a number of countries could make efforts to disrupt the planned meeting between Putin and Trump.
