The Foreign Ministers of the European Union (EU) countries will hold an extraordinary meeting on Monday, August 11, to discuss the upcoming summit of the heads of Russia and the United States on the Ukrainian issue. The head of the EU Diplomatic service, Kaya Kallas, ordered the ministers to convene, the Reuters news agency reported on August 10.

She pointed out that Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump should definitely take into account the interests of Brussels and Kiev during the discussion.

"Any deal between the United States and Russia must include the EU and Ukraine. It should not become a springboard against Russia...> The Transatlantic Alliance and Europe. We are working to achieve a sustainable and just world," Kallas said.

Prior to that, on August 9, the Axios portal reported that representatives of Ukraine, the United States and the European Union were planning to hold a summit to work out a common position before the meeting between Putin and Trump in Alaska. The reason for the preparation of the meeting may be the concern of Ukraine and its NATO allies about Trump's decision to agree to a settlement of the conflict, ignoring the opinion of the EU on this issue.

On August 8, Trump announced a meeting with Putin in Alaska on August 15. The US president noted that details about the upcoming negotiations will be published later. Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov called the choice of a venue for negotiations logical. He said that the economic interests of the states intersect in the region. There are prospects for joint projects in Alaska.
