Theater director Yuri Butusov died in Bulgaria while swimming in the sea. This was announced on August 10 by Kirill Krok, director of the Vakhtangov Theater, in his Telegram channel.

"He was vacationing with his family in Bulgaria with his wife and two children and drowned. Such a ridiculous, tragic death," Kroc wrote.

According to Krok, Butusov was the main director of the theater for six years. During this time, he staged several performances, two of which — "Running down Bulgakov" and "King Lear" — are still in the repertoire.

The death of Yuri Butusov became known earlier that day. The director was 63 years old. Among his famous productions are "The Seagull" (Satyricon Theater), "King Lear" (Vakhtangov Theater), "Uncle Vanya", "Hamlet", "Macbeth. Cinema", "Three Sisters" (Leningrad City Council Theater). He has also worked abroad, directing "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead" in Vilnius (2023) and "Gogol. Portrait" in Riga (2024).
