The situation around the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) is becoming critical due to almost daily attacks by Ukrainian militants. This was announced on August 10 by Evgenia Yashina, Director of Communications at ZAES.

"The situation around the station is becoming critical: shelling has become more frequent, reaching almost daily intensity," Yashina told RIA Novosti.

She recalled that a civilian was killed in one of the attacks last Saturday. Also, the staff of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, liquidating the consequences of previous attacks, came under fire. In 2024, employees of the NPP were injured when the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) struck during the aftermath of the attack on the Raduga substation.

Yashina stressed that the constant shelling creates an extremely difficult psychological situation and poses a threat to the personnel and infrastructure of the NPP.

The plant is located on the left bank of the Dnieper River and is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe in terms of the number of units and installed capacity. In October 2022, the NPP became the property of Russia.

On August 6, Yuri Chernichuk, Director of the NPP, said that the increased attacks and provocations on the territory of the station by the Armed Forces of Ukraine raise concerns and pose a security threat to the facility itself. He added that experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will receive all the data on new Ukrainian strikes.
