In Germany, TikTok will replace moderators with AI
TikTok plans to completely eliminate the moderator team in Germany, replacing them with artificial intelligence (AI), which provokes employee strikes and criticism from the union. This was reported on August 10 by The Guardian newspaper.
According to the ver.di trade union, TikTok intends to cut 150 employees who are responsible for removing inappropriate content from the platform. Instead, the company will rely on AI-based automated systems.
TikTok employees in Germany held strikes to put pressure on the company and force it to enter into negotiations with the union. ver.di representative Kalle Kunkel, in turn, said that employees complained about errors in the platform's algorithms, which mistakenly classified harmless content as malicious.
"AI is not really capable of recognizing problematic images or videos, especially when it comes to complex content," he noted.
Trade union members believe that replacing humans with AI will lead to an increase in errors.
Earlier, on April 27, American entrepreneur Elon Musk commented on the novelty of introducing electrodes into human brain tissue and clarified that at this rate robots will be able to replace surgeons within five years. He expressed the opinion that surgical robots are able to perform difficult work faster and better than humans, requiring high concentration.
