More than 1.3 thousand new cases of chikungunya fever have been identified in China

Doctors have identified 1,387 new cases of chikungunya virus infection in Guangdong Province in southern China in a week. This was announced on August 10 by the regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

The vast majority of those infected (1,212) were identified in the city of Foshan, which was the focus of the disease in early July. 103 cases were recorded in the administrative center of Guangzhou province, TASS reports.

It is noted that the fight against mosquitoes carrying the virus has been intensified in the region.

The Chinese publication Stdaily reported on July 24 that the number of people infected with chikungunya fever in southern China has increased to more than 3 thousand people. The first case of this fever in China was detected on July 8 in the city of Foshan.
