- The Russian Ambassador pointed to the buildup of NATO's military infrastructure in Albania
In recent years, Albania has been building up the military infrastructure of the NATO bloc. This was announced on August 10 by the Russian Ambassador to Albania Alexey Zaitsev.
"Over the past few years, the Balkan region as a whole and Albania in particular have witnessed a build-up of NATO's military infrastructure. Among them is the opening of a NATO tactical airbase in March 2024 in the city of Kucova (Central Albania)," TASS quoted him as saying.
It is noted that the alliance is modernizing the transport and maritime infrastructure. The increased military presence is aimed, among other things, at the activities of the Joint NATO Naval Forces.
At the same time, Russia has already pointed out to the military bloc the need to form an "equal and indivisible" security architecture in Eurasia.
"We believe that the implementation of Russia's flagship initiative, the Greater Eurasian Partnership, as a contour of common development, stability, peace and prosperity, best meets this task," the diplomat added.
According to Zaitsev, the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) could be at the center of the initiative proposed by the Russian Federation. The idea can also be implemented with the participation of other similar platforms, within the framework of which international cooperation in the field of security and economic development is carried out.
It is noted that the idea of creating a Large Eurasian Partnership was first proposed by Russian President Vladimir Putin in 2015 during his address to the Federal Assembly. The partnership on this basis is based on efforts to promote the building of a just polycentric world order with equal and mutually beneficial economic cooperation.
On August 5, the head of the Polish National Security Bureau, General Dariusz Lukowski, announced the deliberate intimidation of NATO by the war with Russia. He noted that the statement about alleged threats from the Russian Federation is just a new political scenario that NATO is switching to due to the redeployment of US troops in Europe.
Glenn Diesen, a professor at the University of Southeastern Norway, expressed the opinion on June 25 that NATO would lose its relevance after the end of the confrontation with the Russian Federation. He stressed that a proxy war is being waged with Russia through Ukraine, and called this the main reason for the alliance's existence at the present time.
