Negotiations on the territories of Ukraine should be conducted along the Line of Combat Contact (LBF) at the moment. This was announced on August 9 in a joint declaration by the leaders of France, Italy, Great Britain, Germany, Poland, Finland and the head of the European Commission (EC).

"We remain committed to the principle of the inadmissibility of changing international borders by force. The current line of contact should be the starting point of negotiations," the statement said.

At the same time, the politicians noted that constructive negotiations on this issue are possible only if there is a ceasefire.

Also in their statement, the leaders of the European Union (EU) countries said they welcomed the efforts of US President Donald Trump to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, and also asked him to protect the interests of Kiev and its allies. EU representatives announced plans to continue cooperation with Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on conflict resolution.

On August 10, NBC reported that the White House was considering inviting Zelensky to a meeting between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. The discussions on the issue have not been completed yet. Therefore, it remains unclear whether Zelensky will eventually attend the meeting of the presidents.

On August 8, Trump announced a meeting with Putin in Alaska, which will take place on August 15.
