Mass protests against Netanyahu's plan for Gaza began in Tel Aviv
Thousands of people are protesting in Tel Aviv against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's plan to seize the Gaza Strip. The corresponding footage is published by Izvestia on August 9.
"Thousands of Israelis are marching around the headquarters of the Israeli army, and they demand that Israel not carry out Netanyahu's plan to capture Gaza. The Israelis, most of them, think that this will endanger the lives of the hostages who are still in Gaza," correspondent Nikita Kulyukhin reports from the scene.
The protesters are demanding an end to the military conflict and a deal with the Palestinian Hamas movement to free the hostages. Currently, about 50 people have been recognized as forcibly detained in Gaza. About 20 of them may still be alive after two years of imprisonment in the tunnels.
It is noted that the Israeli police blocked one of the main intersections in Tel Aviv. At the same time, the protesters continue their protest march with torches.
"These people here behind me, the Israelis, want to stop the war, make a deal and return all the hostages who are still alive. And after that, let Israel do what it wants. But the most important thing is to get everyone back first. That's what people are asking for here," the correspondent said.
On August 8, Axios journalist Barak Ravid reported that the Israeli Security Cabinet had approved Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's decision to occupy Gaza City, located in the enclave of the same name.
Prior to that, on August 4, the Ynet portal reported on Israel's preparation of a plan for the complete occupation of the Gaza Strip. It was clarified that the Israeli leadership intends to switch to active combat operations throughout the enclave. At the same time, the government noted that the army's actions will be conducted even in areas where hostages are being held.
