- The number of detainees at the rally in support of Palestine in London has reached more than 360
London police detained 365 people at a rally in support of the pro-Palestinian movement Palestine Action, listed as a banned organization in the UK. This was reported on August 9 by AlJazeera TV company.
"The Metropolitan Police reported that 365 demonstrators were arrested on Parliament Square by 18:00 local time (16:00 Moscow time. - Ed.) on Saturday "for supporting a banned organization," the article says.
It is also noted that earlier the police expressed their intention to arrest "anyone who expresses support for actions in Palestine."
Earlier in the day, it was reported about 200 arrested protesters in London who took part in a rally against military operations in Palestine in Parliament Square.
On the same day, Bloomberg, citing a statement from the United Kingdom's Foreign Ministry, reported that the British government had announced additional humanitarian aid for the Gaza Strip amid Israel's plans to expand the offensive. It is noted that the British Foreign Office has allocated an additional £8.5 million ($11.4 million) to the UN fund established to supply food and water to the Palestinians.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced on July 29 that the kingdom would recognize Palestine's statehood in September ahead of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). He stressed that recognition of Palestine will happen if the Israeli government "does not reach a cease-fire" and "does not commit to a long-term peace process."
