Iran opposed the creation of a corridor through Armenia

Tehran has protested against the creation of a corridor through Armenia, supported by US President Donald Trump, which will connect Azerbaijan with Nakhichevan. This was announced on Saturday, August 9, by advisor to the Supreme Leader of Iran Ali Akbar Velayati.

"Relations in this region are not limited to two countries — Azerbaijan and Armenia. The geopolitical changes in the South Caucasus are also shifting Iran's borders, so we have the right to defend our interests in the strongest possible way," Velayati said in an interview with Tasnim news agency.

He noted that the implementation of the plan to create the corridor jeopardizes the security of the South Caucasus, and Iran will act to ensure this security.

Velayati stressed that the Zangezur corridor is not just a territory that can be rented, but a part of the state territory. The expansion of US influence in the region may lead to the strengthening of NATO in the South Caucasus, which, according to him, will pose a threat to Iran and Russia. He also said that Tehran would not allow this to happen.
