Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said during a telephone conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin that his country is ready to continue contributing to the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. This was announced on Saturday, August 9, by the press service of the Brazilian head of state.

"President Lula stressed that Brazil has always supported dialogue and the search for a peaceful solution, and confirmed that his government is ready to make any necessary contribution, including through the Friends of Peace Group," the Brazilian leader said in a statement on his website.

Putin, in turn, thanked Brazil for its commitment to the peace process. The Presidents also discussed the international political and economic situation, as well as cooperation between the two countries within the framework of BRICS.

The Russian leader also congratulated Brazil on the outcome of the BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro. In addition, the leaders confirmed their intention to organize the next meeting of the High-level Commission on Brazilian-Russian Cooperation at the end of the year.

The phone conversation between Putin and da Silva took place earlier in the day. It was clarified that Putin informed his Brazilian counterpart about the results of the meeting with the special envoy of the US President Stephen Witkoff. Da Silva, in turn, expressed support for efforts aimed at helping resolve the Ukrainian crisis.
