Putin and Trump to discuss long-term settlement in Ukraine in Alaska
Russian and US Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump will discuss a long-term settlement of the Ukrainian conflict at a meeting in Alaska on August 15. This was announced to journalists on August 9 by Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian leader.
He noted that Alaska and the Arctic are regions where the economic interests of the two states intersect and there is an opportunity to implement various projects.
"But, of course, the presidents themselves will undoubtedly focus on discussing options for achieving a long—term peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian crisis," Ushakov said.
Trump announced a meeting with Putin in Alaska on August 8. Ushakov called the choice of a place for negotiations logical. Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy expressed his willingness to receive the leaders of the United States and Russia.
On the same day, the US president stressed that he was convinced of the possibility of signing a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine in the coming months. In this regard, Trump pointed out the need for territorial concessions from both sides.
