Japanese boxer Shigetoshi Kotari died at the age of 29 after injuries sustained on August 2 in a fight against his compatriot Yamato Hata. This was reported on August 9 by the NHK TV channel.
The match consisted of 12 rounds and ended in a draw.
"Shortly after the match, Kothari, while in the medical room, complained of a headache and was taken to a hospital in Tokyo unconscious," the publication says.
After the fight, the athlete was urgently hospitalized for emergency brain surgery. During the surgical procedures, he had a subdural hematoma removed. It is specified that the death occurred on August 8 at about 23:00 local time (17:00 Moscow time).
During his professional career, Kothari took part in 12 fights, in which he won eight victories. He lost two fights and drew two more.
Earlier, on July 8, it was reported that Mexican boxer Pedro Antonio Rodriguez died at the age of 37 in the United States after losing a fight. There was no official information on the death of the athlete.
