The possible refusal of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky from territorial concessions in negotiations with Russia may anger American leader Donald Trump. This was reported on August 9 by The New York Times (NYT).

The article notes that Trump has long made a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia one of his main foreign policy goals, even if it means accepting conditions that are unfavorable for Kiev.

"Zelensky's abrupt refusal risks angering Trump," writes the NYT.

The newspaper added that earlier, Donald Trump had already criticized Ukraine for clinging to "stubborn demands" for a cease-fire. The US president also stated that Kiev was "not ready for peace."

On the same day, Bloomberg announced a change in Vladimir Zelensky's position on resolving the conflict in Ukraine. The agency claims that Zelensky risks facing a take-it-or-leave-it deal in order to accept the loss of Ukrainian territory. Kiev's allies also have many doubts about how any agreement can be implemented and what security guarantees Ukraine will receive.
