Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated Russian athletes and workers in the field of physical education on the Day of Physical Education, noting the importance of sports as a tradition of Russian society. The corresponding telegram was published on the Kremlin's website on August 9.
According to the head of state, the holiday has long been a national one, is widely celebrated throughout Russia and unites not only professional athletes, but also adherents of physical activity and a healthy lifestyle, regardless of generation or occupation.
"The high importance of physical culture and sports is defined in our society as one of the inalienable spiritual and moral values. Since ancient times, mass competitive games, ice battles and martial arts competitions have been held in Russia, where participants competed with strength and courage, dexterity and perseverance," the head of state noted.
The Russian leader added that these traditions continue and multiply. Russian athletes confirm the country's status as one of the world's leading sports powers with their achievements, the president noted.
Putin stressed the importance of creating an accessible, convenient and high-quality sports infrastructure and organizing sports and recreation events. He also called for improving the system of support and effective recovery of participants in the special operation.

Earlier that day, a sports march was held in Novosibirsk, organized by the All-Russian public movement "Healthy Fatherland" and timed to coincide with the Day of the Physical Education Student.
