Trump announces cooperation between the United States and Armenia on the development of a corridor with Azerbaijan

The United States will cooperate with Armenia to develop a corridor with Azerbaijan under an agreement that can last up to 99 years. This was announced on August 8 by the American leader Donald Trump after talks with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at the White House.

"Armenia is also creating an exclusive partnership with the United States to develop this corridor, which can last up to 99 years. And then they promise that they will extend it in 99 years," he said.

At the same time, Trump added that the territorial integrity of Armenia will be fully respected within the framework of the deal.

"We expect significant infrastructure development by American companies. They really want to come to these two countries. And they will spend a lot of money, it will bring economic benefits to our three countries. This is extremely positive news for the future of the entire region," the American leader added.

The agreement between the two countries involves the construction of a railway line, oil and gas pipelines, as well as fiber-optic lines. This should make it possible to move people and goods between Turkey and Azerbaijan, bypassing Iran or Russia. In the future, the route may be continued to Central Asia.

Earlier in the day, Pashinyan and Aliyev signed a declaration on the peaceful settlement of the conflict.
