US President Donald Trump announced a possible exchange of territories in the context of a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. On August 8, the politician told reporters at the White House.

"You are looking at territories that have been fought for for three and a half years. <...> We are considering the return of some, some exchanges. It's difficult. Some will return, some will change, there will be an exchange of territories," he said.

Trump stressed that discussing the exchange of territories can be difficult, but the politician is confident that this process will benefit both sides. According to the US president, the issue of possible territorial changes may be raised in the near future — "later or tomorrow."

On August 7, Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov announced that Russia and the United States had agreed on a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Trump in the coming days. He noted that the parties have already started working out agreements on negotiations between the two leaders.

The day before, Trump said during a speech in the Oval Office of the White House that there are good prospects for a meeting with Putin. In addition, he expressed hope for an early meeting between Putin and President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky.
