Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, expressed dissatisfaction with the decision of the German government to suspend arms supplies to Tel Aviv. This was announced on August 8 by the office of the head of the Israeli Cabinet.

"Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz this evening and expressed his disappointment with Merz's decision to impose an arms embargo on Israel," the ministry said on its social media page.

According to the Israeli Prime Minister, by imposing an embargo and not supporting Israel's actions against Hamas, Germany allegedly "encourages terrorism." Netanyahu noted that "Israel's goal is not to occupy Gaza, but to liberate it from Hamas rule."

Earlier in the day, it was reported that the German government was suspending the issuance of permits for the export of weapons to Israel that could be used in the Gaza Strip. As German Chancellor Friedrich Merz noted, Israel has the right to defend itself against the actions of the Palestinian Hamas movement, but the main priority is the release of hostages and targeted negotiations on a cease-fire.
