The dog handler gave advice on how to deal with a sleeping dog's nightmare
Vladimir Golubev, President of the Russian Cynological Federation, told us what to do if a dog has a terrible dream.
In an interview with Radio 1 on Friday, August 8, the specialist noted that a dog's sleep includes several phases, one of which is the REM sleep phase. During the REM sleep phase, the dog's paws may twitch, its eyes move quickly, and a quiet whining or howling behavior may appear — this usually means that the pet is dreaming. At this point, the brain processes the events of the day, and stressed animals may have nightmares.
It is better not to wake the dog: the phase does not last long, and sudden awakening can cause stress. With frequent or prolonged episodes, you can softly call out to your pet or lightly touch it so that it wakes up gently.
It is worth contacting a veterinarian if the nightmares repeat too often, the dog has experienced severe stress or disturbing symptoms appear in a dream — incontinence, foaming at the mouth, difficulty breathing.
On August 7, Golubev explained why a dog can't be vegan. He stressed that a person should not project their habits, emotions and lifestyle onto dogs: humans and dogs are different biological species, writes RT. According to the expert, dogs are predators, and their bodies need animal proteins. If the owner does not like the look of raw meat, you can choose ready—made feeds in which the protein source is meat, poultry, fish, eggs or even insects.
On August 5, Golubev, in an interview with the Moscow city news agency, said that a dog during puberty can become aggressive and react worse to commands due to a hormonal surge. According to him, the number of walks with a dog should be increased, but the pet should be kept on a leash and always control the situation when meeting other animals.
On August 1, the specialist noted that the daily food allowance for the dog should be clearly established. According to him, it is also important to pay attention to walking and playing with the dog, adapting them to the breed and age of the animal, notes 360.ru .
In February, Golubev explained in an interview with Izvestia the possible causes of destructive behavior of dogs, in particular, the habit of nibbling wallpaper. According to the expert, the reason may be lack of physical activity, lack of new experiences or lack of attention from the owners, NSN notes.
