OpenAI beat Grok in AI Chess Tournament
The OpenAI o3 model defeated Grok, developed by the company of American billionaire and entrepreneur Elon Musk xAI, in the final of the artificial intelligence (AI) chess tournament. This was reported on August 8 by the BBC television and radio company.
"The o3 model from OpenAI went undefeated in the tournament and defeated the Grok 4 model from xAI in the final, adding fuel to the fire of the ongoing rivalry between the two companies," the article says.
It is noted that tech giants have long used chess to evaluate the progress and capabilities of computer systems, and modern chess machines are virtually invincible even for the best grandmasters.
According to the BBC, despite the fact that AI models have achieved significant success in solving everyday tasks, they still "have a lot to grow" in chess.
On the eve, OpenAI introduced a new generation of its neural network, GPT—5, thanks to which users will receive more accurate reasoning. During the presentation, the developers assured that the updated version of the neural network is equipped with extended long-term memory and gives errors in responses much less often. GPT-5 will be available to all ChatGPT users, but the number of requests for free users will be limited.
