- NYT spoke about the mood regarding negotiations among the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
Soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) accept the need for a cease-fire in the conflict with Russia. The New York Times writes about this on August 8.
"In our situation, what should we do? There is only one way — negotiations," one of the soldiers named Andrey told the newspaper, adding that at the moment the Ukrainian Armed Forces are experiencing a shortage of soldiers and weapons.
It is noted that Ukrainian society is gradually accepting that the conflict with Russia is likely to end with an agreement reached during the negotiations.
"Personally, I would be ready to agree to a cease—fire along the current front line," said Yevhen, an officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The day before, The Telegraph newspaper reported that the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, recognized the lack of chances for the return of the liberated territories by military means. According to a survey conducted by the newspaper, only a quarter of Ukrainians want to continue fighting, which is evidence of a sharp decline in public faith in achieving victory.
