The Indian Ministry of Defense has denied information about the suspension of defense purchases in the United States by the republic. This was reported by The Hindu newspaper on August 8.

"The Ministry of Defense has denied news reports about India's suspension of negotiations with the United States on arms purchases, calling them "false and fabricated," the publication says.

The agency added that all purchases "are reviewed in accordance with current procedures."

Earlier in the day, Reuters reported that India had decided to suspend its plans to purchase weapons from the United States, and the country's defense minister, Rajnath Singh, canceled his planned visit to the United States. It was noted that the reason was allegedly a disproportionate increase in duties from Washington.

On August 6, US President Donald Trump signed a decree imposing an additional 25% duty on imports from India. The White House clarified that this measure was introduced in connection with India's "direct or indirect" import of petroleum products from the Russian Federation.
