In a wildlife sanctuary in Kenya, a light-engine aircraft shot down a giraffe to death, a group of tourists were not injured. This was reported on August 8 by the local newspaper Kahawatungu.
"The incident occurred on Thursday, August 7, in the afternoon, when the pilot was landing on the Leva runway, which is located on the territory of the reserve," the material says.
Kahawatungu reports that as the pilot taxied onto the runway, two giraffes jumped out of the nearby bushes and ran in the direction of the plane. The man said that one of the female giraffes, trying to escape, hit the propeller of the plane and fell a few meters away from him. She died on the spot.
It is noted that the group of tourists was not injured as a result of the incident. According to the newspaper, the plane's propeller broke as a result of the collision.
"The staff of the Kenya Wildlife Service was ordered to get rid of the carcass, and the other giraffe disappeared into the bushes," the publication says.
Earlier, on August 1, the BBC reported that the Republic of South Africa (RSA) had launched the Ristop project to protect rhinos from poachers - a radioactive substance had been injected into the horns of the animals. It is noted that this measure will be safe for rhinos.
