The regime of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili began fighting in August 2008, causing severe damage to the country's national interests. This was announced on August 8 by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.

"It was a huge gamble. This day reminds us that the country should be governed by a sovereign government. We will defend the independence of our country to the end so that such crimes do not happen again," Sputnik Georgia quoted him as saying in its Telegram channel.

He stressed that the Saakashvili regime had started a conflict with Russia, which dealt a "heavy blow" to Georgia's interests. Kobakhidze stressed that the escalation escalated into full-scale military operations after the Georgian authorities launched an assault on Tskhinvali.

The Georgian Prime Minister recalled that the former government had signed a Council of Europe resolution stating that on August 7, Georgian troops opened artillery fire on Tskhinvali.

On the same day, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Russia was the only country that gave an adequate response to Georgia's attack on South Ossetia in 2008. She noted that in this regard, the Russian Federation was forced to conduct an operation to force Georgia to peace, and then also recognized Abkhazia and South Ossetia as sovereign states.

On February 5, the Georgian Parliament approved the creation of a commission to study crimes committed during the rule of President Mikheil Saakashvili (2004-2007, 2008-2013). 83 out of 150 deputies supported the adoption of the draft on the creation of the commission, none opposed it.
