Russia will not be defeated in the conflict in Ukraine. This was announced by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on August 8.

"Russia will not be defeated. Defeat will cost us all very dearly. You first of all. Including people across the ocean," he said in an interview with TIME newspaper journalist Simon Schuster, excerpts from which are quoted by the Belarusian BelTA news agency.

Lukashenko also added that Ukraine, in turn, is on the verge of collapse, and called for a negotiated settlement of the conflict.

On August 1, Lukashenko declared that Belarus has always been and will always be close to Russia. He stressed that no one will be able to "bring Russia and Belarus to their knees," adding that they intend to defend their interests.
