The Russian national team won the International AI Olympiad
The Russian team won six gold, one silver and one bronze medals at the International Olympiad on Artificial Intelligence (IOAI) among high school students. This is the best result in terms of the number of gold medals among all participants, according to the Central University, which trained the team together with the Alliance in the Field of Artificial Intelligence and the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT).
The Olympiad was held in China from 2 to 8 August with the support of UNESCO.
In the final, the Russian national team met with 300 schoolchildren from 61 countries, including Australia, Brazil, Hungary, China, Mexico, the United Arab Emirates, Poland, Serbia, Singapore, the United States, Sweden, and Japan. The stage consisted of a team and individual rounds. In the team round, Russian schoolchildren entered the top 10 teams on the first day of participation and won silver medals.
The participants programmed robots, solved non—standard tasks, applying knowledge from various fields - from computer vision and machine learning to natural language processing.
Dmitry Chernyshenko, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, noted that the country has a strong physics and mathematics school and advanced developments in the field of AI. "Russian schoolchildren who have won six gold, one silver and one bronze medals in a fair competition are worthy followers of these traditions," he stressed, congratulating the children on their awards.
Education Minister Sergei Kravtsov added that the success of Russian schoolchildren at the Olympics is "not only a matter of pride for the country, but also an important contribution of education to the future development of the economy and the digital maturity of the state."
Stanislav Bliznyuk, President of the T-Technologies Group, stressed that Russia has once again proved its technological leadership on the world stage. "We need such talents, so we will be waiting for everyone here — at the internship and, of course, at the Central University," Bliznyuk said.
