Over the past day, 363 road accidents have occurred in Russia.
Over the past 24 hours, 363 road accidents were recorded on Russian roads, in which 42 people were killed and 417 injured. This was reported to Izvestia on August 8 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. 37 of the dead were drivers and passengers, the ministry said.
There were 13 accidents involving buses, in which one person was killed, and 19 more road users, including one child, needed medical attention. Nine bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by drivers of other vehicles.
In the Leningrad region, on 22 km of the federal highway R-21 "Cola", a truck driver collided with an intercity bus moving ahead of him in the same direction, with 20 passengers in the cabin. As a result of the accident, the driver and passenger of the truck, as well as the driver and three passengers of the bus were injured and ended up in the hospital.
As a result of 66 accidents involving pedestrians, five people were killed, and 62 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured are 19 child pedestrians, 11 of whom were injured when crossing the roadway in unintended places. Of the total number of pedestrian incidents, 24 occurred at pedestrian crossings and 42 outside their area of operation.
74 accidents involving minors were registered, 85 young road users were injured, including 37 passengers, 9 cyclists and 15 motor transport drivers. Two children were killed: an ATV driver and a passenger in a passenger car.
In the Perm Region, at night, on 28 km of the Perm—Ust-Kachka regional highway, a 27-year-old car driver collided with an ATV moving in the opposite direction, which is sports equipment and therefore is not equipped with taillights. The ATV was driven by a 16-year-old schoolboy without a motorcycle helmet, who died in an accident.
In the Moscow region, in the evening, on 12 km of the Kashira — Silver Ponds — Uzlovaya highway, a truck driver, when turning left at an unregulated intersection, did not provide an advantage in traffic, collided with a passenger car moving in the opposite direction. As a result of the accident, the driver and two passengers of the passenger car were killed, including the two-month-old grandson of the motorist, who was in the rear passenger seat in a child restraint. Another passenger in the car was hospitalized.
In the Kursk region, on 2 km of the Kursk —Rylsk regional highway, a 24-year-old car driver drove to an unregulated railway crossing, where he collided with a shunting locomotive. The culprit of the collision and his two passengers were killed in the accident. Another passenger of the car was hospitalized with injuries.
The State Traffic Inspectorate urges truck drivers to strictly follow the rules of the road and be more careful behind the wheel, especially in the morning and evening. Extreme care should be taken when passing intersections, especially unregulated or roundabouts. Never rush to "skip" them as quickly as possible, thereby creating an obstacle for other road users. In addition, the State Traffic Inspectorate once again reminds motorists of the importance of observing the rules of passage of railway crossings, since this maneuver is considered dangerous and requires the driver to concentrate and pay maximum attention.
"The analysis of accidents at railway crossings shows that such accidents most often occur at unregulated crossings, where drivers, not convinced of the safety of the maneuver, try to drive in front of a nearby train. Trying to gain a few seconds of travel, they often endanger not only their own lives, but also the lives and health of their own passengers, railway staff, passengers of commuter trains and long—distance trains," said Police Colonel Anton Belan, Deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic injuries of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
He recalled that in the traffic regulations there is a direct ban on leaving the railway tracks outside the crossing. Such a maneuver is also prohibited when the barrier is closed or closing, or when the traffic light or crossing attendant is forbidding. A driver moving through a railway crossing should be extremely careful at night, as well as in adverse weather conditions and limited visibility, Belan stressed.
Earlier that day, it was reported that in the Irkutsk region, a minibus with passengers spontaneously began to move and rolled down a slope into Lake Baikal. Several people were injured in the incident.
