The leading EU countries, including France and Germany, need to organize a summit with Russia after the meeting between Russian leader Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump. This was announced on August 8 by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

"The German Chancellor and the French president should go to Moscow together for negotiations on behalf of Europe. Or, if necessary, to hold such negotiations on neutral territory," he said on Kossuth Radio.

Orban also expressed regret that the EU leadership had withdrawn from the process of resolving the Ukrainian crisis, taking a position in support of the continuation of the conflict.

The Hungarian prime minister also called the reports about the preparations for the meeting between Putin and Trump good news. Orban is convinced that the EU countries should also "be active" in organizing a summit with Russia.

Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said on August 7 that an agreement had been agreed between the Russian Federation and the United States to meet in the coming days. He noted that the parties have already started working out agreements on negotiations between the two leaders.

Prior to that, Trump said during a speech in the Oval Office of the White House that there were good prospects for a meeting with Putin. In addition, he expressed hope for an early meeting between Putin and President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky.
