NBC reported on Israel's troop buildup near the Gaza border
Israel is increasing the number of troops and military equipment near the border with the Gaza Strip. This was reported on August 8 by NBC TV channel with reference to satellite images.
"Commercial satellite images show that the Israeli military is increasing the number of troops and equipment near the Gaza border, which will allow them to support a possible new ground invasion of the Palestinian enclave," the publication says.
It is noted that this conclusion was reached by three current and one former American official who reviewed the personnel. According to them, the footage of the movement of troops and combat formations may indicate the preparation of a major ground operation.
"If there is a new military operation, it may include efforts to free hostages held by Hamas and expand humanitarian assistance to areas not affected by the fighting," the officials and one person with knowledge said.
Earlier in the day, Axios journalist Barak Ravid reported that the Israeli Security Cabinet had approved Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's decision to occupy Gaza City, located in the enclave of the same name.
Earlier, on August 4, the Ynet portal reported on Israel's preparation of a plan for the complete occupation of the Gaza Strip. It was clarified that the Israeli leadership intends to switch to active combat operations throughout the enclave. At the same time, the government noted that the army's actions will be conducted even in areas where hostages are being held.
