In the city of Zeya, Amur region, a 39-year-old businessman stole budget funds, and a criminal case was opened on this fact. This was announced on August 8 by the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia (SU TFR) for the region in its Telegram channel.
"A criminal case has been opened against a 39-year—old businessman on the fact of <...> a crime under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud on an especially large scale")," the message says.
According to the investigation, in the period from September to December 2024, the entrepreneur signed contracts for the restoration of roads, but produced only part of what was promised in the contracts. Consequently, the defendant unlawfully turned budget funds to his advantage. The total damage amounted to more than 10 million rubles.
It is noted that the accused is in custody. At the moment, all the circumstances of the crime are being established.
Earlier that day, a bus driver in Sakhalin was sentenced to 10 years in prison for embezzling 21 million rubles. According to the investigation, since July 2021, the accused passenger bus driver provided false information about the actual amount of work performed in order to receive subsidies to compensate for the cost of transporting beneficiaries. In the accounting documents, he intentionally overestimated the data directly affecting the calculation of the subsidy amount.
