Due to the large-scale earthquake in Kamchatka, Vladivostok moved 5 cm to the south, and then the same distance to the north. Nikolai Shestakov, a professor at the FEFU Polytechnic Institute, told Izvestia on August 8.

"Even the stations in Vladivostok, which are 2,350 km away from the epicenter, "felt" the movements of the earth's surface caused by the Kamchatka earthquake. 10 minutes after the main shock, our city "rocked" by almost 5 cm to the south, and then by the same amount to the north," the scientist said.

Also, during the earthquake, the mountain ranges in the southern part of the Kamchatka Peninsula shifted 2 m to the southeast. At the same time, they also dropped by 30 cm in height.

It is noted that the observations obtained on movements during a natural cataclysm are of great importance for scientists to understand the physics of the earthquake source.

Earlier, on August 3, 10 significant earthquakes were recorded in Kamchatka, and more than 65 earthquakes occurred in just one day. On August 4, the situation repeated itself: seven significant earthquakes occurred during the day, and more than 85 earthquakes occurred during the day.

On July 30, a powerful earthquake of magnitude 8.7 occurred in the Kamchatka Territory. A tsunami threat was declared on the coast of the Avacha Bay. Emergency regimes were introduced in the North Kuril region of the Sakhalin Region and in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. According to the Ministry of Health of the Kamchatka Territory, one person was injured in the region, his condition is satisfactory.
