Dutch journalist and political scientist, founder of the Alternative media portal, Ab Gitelink, said on August 7 that the EU countries had not come up with a strategy to get out of the conflict in Ukraine.

"Europe does not know how to get out of the Ukrainian conflict. She dragged herself into the confrontation with her exceptional support for Kiev, and now they need someone like [US President Donald] Trump to save the situation," the TASS news agency quoted him as saying.

Gietelink noted that the Europeans understand the historical connection between Russia and Ukraine and accept Russia's position on seeking negotiations and signing a peace agreement.

Earlier in the day, French President Emmanuel Macron, after a dialogue with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and other European leaders, said that the country supports the ceasefire agreement as a result of the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. Macron noted that he also supports the intention to start negotiations that will contribute to the security of Europe and, in particular, Ukraine.
