Work has begun on an agreement between the governments of Russia and Malaysia on the supply of floating nuclear power plants (NPP). Alexey Likhachev, CEO of Rosatom, told Izvestia about this after a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and King Sultan Ibrahim of Malaysia on August 6.

"We have not yet started implementing the project, but now we are preparing an intergovernmental agreement that will describe all the relationships," he told Izvestia.

According to Likhachev, Malaysia chooses specific power transmission technologies.

"The Malaysians will choose a model of electricity supply, not the construction of a nuclear power plant or the transfer of a block to them, but the creation of a floating nuclear power plant and the sale of electricity directly from onboard to the Malaysian consumer network," explained the head of Rosatom.

Earlier, on June 27, Likhachev had already discussed the prospects of cooperation in the nuclear field with Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Fadilla Yusof. In July, a Malaysian delegation visited the Leningrad NPP.
